Helsinki gig cancelled

New Swedish tourdates added!

OPETH FINISHES PROMO VIDEO CLIP FOR "BURDEN" WITH LASSE HOILE!

While Lasse Hoile shot and directed the storyline back home in Denmark, Opeth shot the band performance at the Vogue theater in Vancouver, Canada. The song "Burden" is taken from Opeth's last record "Watershed". It is said a digital single will be available for download containing the edit of "Burden" as well as some other goodies. The band also plan to release the said single in the classic proper 7" vinyl format.

Mikael contributes to next OSI record!

Mikael Akerfeldt has recorded vocals for a song entitled "Stockholm" due to be included in the upcoming, as of yet untitled OSI record. The song was recorded by David Castillo at Castillo sound studios. OSI is a project featuring Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) and Kevin Moore (Chroma Key, ex Dream Theater). Release date is yet to be confirmed but it will come out through the InsideOut/SPV imprint.

Bloodbath are an extreme metal supergroup from Stockholm, Sweden. Formed in 1998 with a mutual fascination for the glory days of death metal, the band’s line-up has changed and evolved throughout the years, featuring the elite of Swedish metal.

The next chapter of this brutal saga arrives on October 6th 2008 with the release of the new studio album, The Fathomless Mastery.

Promoters have cancelled the Anthem festival

It is with regret that Opeth announce to their fans that they will not be performing in Israel at the Anthem festival on 14th august as the promoters have now cancelled the festival due to ‘security issues’ and intend to reschedule the festival in December, but Opeth can confirm that they wont be part of this rescheduled date but will book a headline show in Israel in 2009 where fans can see the band do a full set . The date will be announced shortly.

Burning Live Festival on the 25th of July is cancelled. Due to the fact that the Portuguese festival got cancelled Opeth have to cancel Lorca rock as well due to finances. But Opeth will return to Spain in the near future so keep checking the tourdates for updates.

Nova rock concert special

Opeth performed 5 songs at the Nova Rock festival (Austria) with guest bass player, Johan Niemann (Therion, Demonoid) filling in for Martin Mendez, who had the day off catering to the needs of his girlfriend and new born son. Martin Mendez become first time father!

Sandra Artigas, Martin Mendez girlfriend gave birth to their son, Noak Mendez Artigas on the morning of June 14. Weighing in at 3,7 kilos, Noak has already started practising slap bass, and side to side headbanging. Congratulations!!

An astounding 19,000 copies were sold in its first week in stores. Therefore, the verdict is definitely in. Sweden's Opeth have set and raised the bar with their latest album, Watershed.

Opeth.com has gone through a major face lift!

The first Opeth.com site was made in 1998 and was handwritten in HTML. It was made by me Anna Åkerfeldt and Mikael Åkerfeldt and I made it while Mikael and I was dating (how romatic is that...). Since then it has been three different layout for the site and in the past I have done all the work myself. This time I have gotten help from two guys Marius Munteanu and Emil Paun, they have done an amazing work! So hope that you enjoy the new improved Opeth.com site!

WATERSHED IS OUT NOW!

Yes it is the 3rd of June and Opeth´s ninth observation is out! Mikes own words about the recordings: "There's no discussion where we'd go to record the new album. We were so happy with Jens and Fascination street I can't even recall us ever talking about other studios. Actually, I'm lying, I probably said I wanted to record in Stockholm, just to be close to home...but we somehow "forgot" about that since nobody checked out any suitable studios here. Lazy fucking rock dude....guilty! Anyways, FS studios has 2 mixing rooms and Jens had set up a schedule that would allow us to be ready in 5 weeks as opposed to 2-3 months or whatever "Ghost reveries" took to record. With the schedule I could go home every weekend, and sometimes between Thursday and Monday. But this all depended on me stepping back somewhat from my need to control and have my finger in every fucking music pie we're baking. It was a relief for me actually and I think also very healthy for the others not having me breathing down there necks." Read more under Discography/Watershed/Session diary.

Opeth signing sessions in Holland and France!

Opeth signing session in Amsterdam (HOL) and Paris (FRA)! The Amsterdam signing session will takeplace at FAME - www.fame.nl on the 3rd of June. It will start at 6:00PM and ends at 7:30PM. The Paris session is on the 4th of June and will be held at Virgin Megastore 52-60, avenue des Champs Elysées, 6PM to 7.30PM. Be there and get a signed copy of Watershed!

Opeth has recently filmed a promotional video to an edit of the song "Porcelain Heart". The clip was directed by Lasse Hoile (Porcupine tree etc) and shot in Vaxholm/Sweden at the marvellous Bogesund castle, built in the 1640's. The edit was done by Jens Bogren and Mikael Åkerfeldt. Mikael comments: "I think the video came out great! The location and the castle was beyond gorgeous, even though it was cold and empty in there and...yeah, a little scary too. Lasse and his team as well as the actors did a great job! The clip is very gothic looking which I think is the perfect imagery for the song and for Opeth overall I suppose. 2 disc edition of classic Opeth album - Still Life (including 5.1 surround Mix)

A new 2 disc edition of 'Still Life' is released on March 31 st on Peaceville Records. The set features a re-mastered stereo mix of the album on CD plus DVD with new 5.1 surround sound mix plus 'Face Of Melinda' filmed live in London. The artwork has been re-worked by original designer Travis Smith.

'Still Life' was Opeth's first outing for Peaceville. Blessed with renewed enthusiasm, the band delivered yet another flawless gem of an album.

Like 'My Arms, Your Hearse' before it, 'Still Life' was originally recorded under the watchful eye of engineer Fredrik Norddtrom at Gothenburg's Studio Fredman and Maestro Musik and has now been re-mastered and re-mixed by Jens Borgen.

Opeth will tour the US in May with Dream Theater!

The tour will start in Los Angeles, CA on the 2nd of May and ends up in Tampa, FL on the 1st of June. Check out the dates to the right!

"Watershed" is the name of Opeth´s 9th studio observation.

The album has just been mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren with M. Åkerfeldt. The album consist of 7 songs and the titles are as follows:

1. Coil
2. Heir Apparent
3. The Lotus Eater
4. Burden
5. Porcelain Heart
6. Hessian Peel
7. Hex Omega

All the songs have been written by M. Åkerfeldt apart from "Porcelain Heart" which was co-written with Fredrik Åkesson. One additonal track, "Derelict Herds" has also been recorded and this was written by Mikael Åkerfeldt and Per Wiberg. On top of this, 3 cover songs has been recorded. "Bridge of sighs" from Robin Trower´s 1974 Lp with the same title, "Den ständiga resan" (sung in Swedish) by Marie Fredriksson as well as the classic Alice in Chains song, "Would?".

The album was recorded at Fascination street studios during November 1 and December 13. Some addtional recordings were done between January 3rd and 7th. Produced by Jens Bogren and Mikael Åkerfeldt and Opeth.

Says Mikael Åkerfeldt: "I´ve worked so hard with these songs for quite some time now, I´ve listened to 'em a zillion times. I don't hate them just yet! The album sounds great sonically and I think I can hear us evolving as the record plays on. It is taking us somewhere musically and I don't know where. It's very exciting to say the least! I can't remember having enjoyed a recording this much ever before."

The cover was (as usual) designed by Travis Smith in co-operation with Åkerfeldt. Release date is yet to be confirmed but Roadrunner worldwide will have it out sometime in the Springtime of this year.

Mikael back in Bloodbath!

If Pure Death is your thing then maybe this is a happy day for you. Mikael Åkerfeldt has returned to the vocal position in Bloodbath. It's been kept secret since the Summer of 2007 when Mike was asked to record vocals for 4 new tracks destined to be released as the "Unblessing of purity" EP. The band consists of Mikael - Vocals, Axe - Drums, Blakkheim - Guitars, Jonas - Bass and Sodomizer - Guitars. Watch this space for release dates on the EP. Also, the now legendary Wacken 2005 appearance DVD will come out in a near future through Peaceville records. On top of this there's plans to record another full lenght record which will be the 3rd since the band was formed in 1999. This will possibly be recorded during 2008.

The party will take place over 40 hours on the largest ferry on the Baltic Sea, the Silja Symphony, a 204m luxury cruiser equipped with sauna and swimming pool facilities, cabins complete with showers, a shopping galleria, 8-10 bars and restaurants, and apart from the fantastic lineup of bands, there will also be an international music convention in the conference area, which is over 1000 square meters.

The ferry will be leaving at 17:00 on Saturday 8th March, and will be returning to Stockholm 09:30 on Monday 10th March, with a 7 and a half hour stop in Helsinki, during which a mini film festival will be held on the boat by Klubb Super 8 (for those wishing to remain onboard).
